Discover the story behind Blue Ivey School, a family-run preschool in Garland, TX, with a legacy of excellence in early childhood education. Learn how Brad and Alicia Larsen continue to build on a tradition that began in 1997, focusing on health, nutrition, and innovative, child-centered learning environments.
Blue Ivey School’s story is deeply rooted in a family tradition of early childhood education. Brad Larsen grew up immersed in the world of education, thanks to his mother, who owned and operated a school in the Dallas area. Brad’s passion for early childhood education was cultivated from a young age as he learned every aspect of the business—from teaching swimming to working at summer camps.
Growing up immersed in this educational environment, Pauline’s son, Brad, developed a deep understanding of the importance of early childhood education. He spent his formative years learning every aspect of the business—from teaching swimming to working at summer camps. With a degree in Business Finance from Southern Methodist University (SMU), Brad was well-prepared to continue his mother’s legacy.
In 1997, Brad and Alicia Larsen leveraged their extensive experience from working in the family business and the success of opening their first school in Garland in 1990 to establish Blue Ivey School. Their goal was to create a unique educational environment that prioritizes the health, well-being, and development of every child.
Alicia met Brad while working in the family business during her college years. She shared Brad’s passion for education, and together, they decided to build their own legacy in the field of early childhood education. Alicia, with her Business degree from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), and Brad, with his Business Finance degree from Southern Methodist University (SMU), combined their skills and vision to create a school that prioritizes the holistic development of every child.
At Blue Ivey School, we are committed to providing a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that supports the overall well-being of every child. Our schools are built with environmentally friendly materials, including low VOC paints, water-based glues, and solid wood cabinetry, to ensure a healthy atmosphere with minimal off-gassing.
Nutrition is another cornerstone of Blue Ivey School’s philosophy. Brad and Alicia understand the vital role that healthy food plays in a child’s development. That’s why they emphasize the use of fresh, organic ingredients whenever possible and provide home-cooked meals to minimize the consumption of processed foods.
At Blue Ivey School, we combine decades of experience with a forward-thinking approach to early childhood education. Our dedication to fostering a love of learning, promoting health and well-being, and providing a safe, nurturing environment makes us a trusted choice for parents in the Dallas area.

We have been here for 4+ years and the level of care, teachers and overall experience has been better than expected. I could say more but it wouldn't do them justice for what they are and what they do! Alicia Ortega2025-01-22Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The teachers are consistent and honest. They’ve helped my children become potty trained in a matter of weeks. More than half their staff has been there for years. Which is very comforting. Blue Ivey is beautiful and well organized . Sawyer Jude2024-08-16Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Edit: a year later (2024), 3 total years at blue Ivey now. I know some people like to see reviews that aren’t super old. My daughter is now in public school and has switched to the before/after school program at blue Ivey. Getting her into public school was an absolute nightmare and the staff at blue Ivey helped us with so many things. They even helped her get settled on her first day. The staff saved us during one of the most stressful experiences we’ve had to endure so far and I cannot thank them enough. She absolutely loves going to blue Ivey and now she loves her school that they helped us navigate her into. She talks nonstop about how great her teachers are and her friends and she is obsessed with being able to ride in the van to and from school. Blue Ivey has been worth every penny. If you’re considering this school for your child and you’re a nervous parent like me, I can assure you that I trust these people as much as I trust my own family with my daughter. They love her like she’s their own and I appreciate them so very much. My 5 year old daughter has been at Blue Ivey for two years give or take. I am very much a nervous parent and the thought of trusting anyone with my child scared me to death. After two years, I trust this school and her teachers as much as I trust her own father. They have been incredible to her and she loves going to school. She has some level of neurodiversity (adhd or autism, unsure of which) and struggles with sensory issues. They have accommodated her and they make sure she is comfortable. They also taught her how to potty train, something we have struggled with greatly at home. I cannot thank the teachers enough for how much they’ve done for her. My only mild complaint is that they’ve used religious based practices, like saying grace and such. Although they’ve told us that she is never forced into doing such things, she’s 5 and she will repeat what is going on around her. We aren’t a religious family and I have never wanted to force any religion on my child. I want her to make that choice for herself when she is capable of understanding. I can’t deduct any stars from my rating for this because everything else outweighs this minor thing but I would love it if the teachers could be a little more diverse. Not everyone is Christian or catholic. There’s so many religions out there and I feel like my daughter isn’t the only child from a non Christian/catholic/Abrahamic religion family. Otherwise, she’s had a very amazing experience and I plan to keep her in this school as long as she is capable. Amy Waide2024-01-12Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My son with autism came here half-days and the other half were spent at public school receiving services. He was struggling in so many areas, but this was the PERFECT place for him. So organized and just what he needed to help him progress. I am so thankful we were directed to Blue Ivey!
